So as it stands it’s one-nil to The Sea, or to the English Channel to be precise, but I’m ready to even the score. The so-called “Beast from the East” that has disrupted the UK for the last few days released it’s icy grip on the road to Fisherman’s Walk sufficiently to allow for a good turn out of swimmers. Wave buoy data from near Boscombe Pier reported sea temperatures of 4.7ºC whilst more localised readings on the day showed it to be down 4ºC. Whichever way you look at it it was chilly, and chillier than would normally be expected at Bournemouth.
