Four Hour Swim Day

Today's target was to do a 4 hour swim. Conditions at Shore Rd first thing this morning were pretty miserable. It was one of those grey rainy days - one of those days much better seen through my bedroom window with a cup of tea.

Conditions steadily declined through the morning as waves and chop picked up making it a fairly memorable swim for all the wrong reasons. The wind against tide produced a nasty chop which was hard to make any progress against. So we didn't swim a great distance today, only about 11km for me as when we had the wind with us we were against the tide, and when we had the tide with us we were against the wind! I really wanted to get out after 20 minutes but it's important to train in adverse conditions not least because a Channel swim is not just physical - it's also mental. So that's the 4 hour target met so I'm happy to be on track with my training.

My English Channel Solo swim is raising funds for Julia's House, the Dorset and Wiltshire Children's Hospices. They provide respite care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families through a dedicated team of community carers, nurses and other professionals.

Julia's House currently have a Hospice in Bournemouth but have now secured funding and permissions to open another in Devizes which is expected to open in the autumn of 2017.
